Preparing a Meaningful Pitch

There is opportunity in pitch competitions. Young Entrepreneur Convention annually includes one of the largest in the United States. If you are looking to rake in a little extra capital by winning with your pitch, here’s a little insight on making it memorable:

Define Your Pitch

The first step in preparing for our pitch competition is figuring out what kind of idea you want to bring to the table. What kind of problem do you want to solve? Why is this problem a big deal? Is your idea brand new, or has someone already tried to solve this problem before? Figuring out the answers to these early on will help you define your idea and point yourself in a clear direction.

Tell a Story

You’re presenting a brand-new idea to the world – maybe you have a concept for a technology that’s never been developed before, or a new twist on an old, broken down idea. What impact will your idea have on the world around you? While the details are important, it’s crucial that you explain the human impact of your product or service.

Have a Few Crystal-Clear Points

Our pitch competition is just 90 seconds, so it’s important to not get bogged down in too many details and statistics. Instead, pare your idea down to a few main points or facts that drive home the central message of your idea. Prioritize the most important things you want your audience to remember, and save the smaller details for your post-pitch Q&A with the judges.

Be Prepared

After your 90 second pitch is up, our panel of judges will want to dive in a little deeper during their 2-minute Q&A session. This is where all the research you did in Step #1 will come in handy – you’ll answer their questions to the best of your ability. Their feedback can also be a helpful step in pitching your product or service in the future.

Be Confident

Above all, it’s essential that you present your idea with confidence. Before you go on stage, remember to take a deep breath, relax, and give it your best shot. Who knows? This could be the pitch that changes the world!
